A record breaking Patriot and a tale of 3 Celts
February commenced with a blockbuster weekend of sport with the New England Patriots and their superstar Quarter-Back Tom Brady triumphing late on in the Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks. At 37 years old Brady made history with his 4 Touchdown passes yesterday giving him an overall new record of 13 and overhauling the previous tallies of the great Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw. Additionally at 37 years old he made 37 completions and beat Peyton Manning’s Super Bowl record of 34.
A great weekend for Rory Mcilroy with a 3 shot victory in the Dubai Classic and a final score of 22 under par. The tournament has fond memories as his first professional trophy win came here in 2009. After a 66 on the first day he then led from the front in the remaining rounds to claim the title.
And then to the other 2 sporting stories in Cricket and Tennis. While Murray was in meltdown then Morgan and England were in capitulation. How frustrating that in both cases a promising start was made with Andy Murray looking so strong when at 1 set all and a break up in the 3rd and Eoin Morgan’s England Cricket Team keeping Australia’s run scoring down to just 100 halfway through their innings. Unfortunately, the Aussies then ramped up 279 and England were 7 wickets down by the time they reached 100 runs….Game Over! Murray then lost 12 of the last 13 games to lose the match and the 4th set 6 Love!
The French Open in Paris will be the next big challenge for Murray where he must surely aim to at least make the Final for the first time.
Let’s look forward to the Cricket World Cup and hope England can turn the tide and get instant revenge against Australia in the opening match on the 14th February….or at least avoid a Valentine’s Day massacre!
